About
PGCC Distance Learning
What is Distance
Learning?
Distance Learning is way of delivering classes to students who are not
actually on campus. PGCC offers a variety of distance learning options:
Most of
the distance learning courses offered here at Prince George's Community
College are delivered entirely online. Students visit their “classroom” via
a web-based course management system called Blackboard. Students and
instructors communicate through e-mail, discussion boards and chat rooms and
course content and assignments are completed online through Blackboard.
Students who choose this type of class typically seek added convenience,
greater independence, and more autonomy in pursuing their coursework.
Taking a course online can be a very convenient way for students with many
work and family obligations or mobility issues to complete required courses
without having to come to campus often or even at all.
ONLINE
Video Enhanced Online courses are online courses that incorporate video to
supplement course content. The video element of the course can be accessed
through cable television, through streaming video or students can view the
videos on-campus in the library.
VIDEO
ENHANCED ONLINE
Not all
Distance Learning Courses offered at PGCC are entirely online. We also
offer “CampusWeb” courses that have scheduled on-campus meeting dates and
times as well as online course activities. The number of on-campus meetings
varies – some only meet once a month while others may meet every week.
Check the course schedule to find a CampusWeb course that is right for you.

PGCC’s
Distance
Learning
Center also offers Interactive classes. These are classes that use a video
network to connect to other sites around the state of Maryland. In this
type of class, students at PGCC may attend classes on the PGCC campus and
see and hear an instructor that is conducting the class from another campus
or the class you are attending may be broadcast to another school. Check
the course schedule to find out if any Interactive classes are being offered
this semester.
