ENR407. Marketing Tools for Actors

BUS455. Virtual Assistant Business
This course is designed for students who want to run their own virtual assistant business.  A virtual assistant works from his/her own home offering administrative support services to other companies over the Internet.  A virtual assistant can make from $25-$50 per hour performing tasks such as word processing, database management, desktop publishing, and e-mail services.  Moreover, because virtual assistants work from their homes, for customers they often never meet, they do not need to be located in the same city or even the same state.  Students in this course will be taught how to establish and successfully grow a virtual assistant business including learning how to locate customers, set fees, and develop client contracts.  For technical requirements and information, contact Charlene Templeton at 410-836-4113 or e-mail Ctemplet@harford.edu12 sessions, $25* plus $99 access fee

BUS456. Building a Mail Order Business
This course is designed for students who want to learn how to run a mail order (direct marketing) business from home.  Mail order firms span everything from the sale of how-to-book, to catalogs containing specialty food products, to selling clothing over the Internet.  It is a business that can easily be started on a shoestring from your kitchen table, but can also grow into a full-time occupation.  In this course, students will be shown how to choose profitable products, locate suppliers, create advertising that attracts buyers, and fulfill orders quickly and easily.  For technical requirements and information, contact Charlene Templeton at 410-836-4113 or email ctemplet@harford.edu.  12 sessions, $25* plus $99 access fee

JCL329. Twelve Steps to Successful Job Search
This course will cover how to get the job you want quickly and easily and in any economy.  You will identify the job that is best for your needs.  You’ll then be given complete step-by-step instructions on how to get that job, regardless of your level of expertise.  Also covered are ways to build a rapport with any interviewer, both verbally and nonverbally, and ways to master the six phases of a successful job interview.  12 sessions, $55 plus $52 access fees

JCL330. Personal Career Assessment
Begin planning your career or career change by identifying your unique career interests, values, and personality style.  You will take three assessments: the Strong Interest Inventory (SII), the Eureka Skills Inventory (ESI), and the Myers/Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI).  A career counselor will meet with you individually to interpret your results and explain how to use this information in career planning.  You must first register for the course.  Contact the Career Assessment and Planning Center (M-2102) at 301-322-0831 or 301-322-0886 to reserve time on the computer for the assessments and to schedule time with your career counselor.  $185

DPR520. Introduction to JSP Programming
Become proficient in the programming language that powers many of today's Web sites.  Requirements: Internet access, e-mail, and the Internet Explorer or Netscape or Firefox Web browser.  Completion of "Creating Web Pages" (or equivalent HTML experience).  You should also have experience with at least one high-level programming language such as JAVA, C++, or Visual Basic, as JSP makes use of many of the same concepts of these languages.  You'll also need a computer running Linux or Windows 95 or greater in order to download and execute the Tomcat JSP engine used to run the sample programs in this course.  $53* plus $52 fee
