Guide to the Bb Course Navigation Template


All Blackboard courses are required to use the below course menu template. Following are recommended practices to re-format your old courses into the new template.

Step 1: Copy your course using the course copy instructions

Step 2: Arrange Menu Buttons

Arrange the menu buttons in your new course so that the buttons listed above are listed as the first 7 buttons.

 

 

Step 3: Create Folders for "Extra" buttons

Each button in your course that is not part of the template must be created as a folder in one of standard button areas.


Examples:

  • If you have a 'Tests and Quizzes' button, create a folder in the 'Course Content' area called 'Tests and Quizzes'.
  • If you have an 'External Links' folder, create a folder in the 'Quicklinks' area called 'External Links'.
  • If you have a folder called 'Course Schedule', create a folder in the 'Syllabus & Schedule' area called 'Course Schedule'.

Step 4: Setup 'Course Content'

Move all course materials into the 'Course Content' area.

 

     a. Type of materials to be put into 'Course Content'

          i.   Assignments

          ii.  Learning Modules

          iii. Course Documents

          iv. Quizzes

          v.  Exams

 

  1. To move course materials from 'extra' buttons into the Course Content button, create a folder in Course Content with the same name as the extra button.

  2. Move all course materials into this folder within the Course Content area.

Step 5: Setup 'Start Here' Area

Move all introduction and/or course overview information into the 'Start Here' button.

 

     a. Type of information to be put into 'Start Here'

          i.   Course Overview

          ii.  Getting Around the Site

          iii. Tips for Success

          iv. Starting the Course

Step 6: Setup 'Syllabus & Schedule' Area

Move all syllabus and schedule documents into the 'Syllabus & Schedule' button.

 

     a. Type of information to be put into 'Syllabus & Schedule'

          i.   Instructor Contact Information

          ii.  Course Learning Objectives

          iii. Course Materials

          iv. Course Calendar

          v.  Grading

Step 7: Delete All "Extra" Buttons

After moving all content from your extra menu buttons, delete all buttons except for the above 7. All courses should contain the above 7 buttons only.
