PGCC's online and hybrid credit courses are designed around three pillars of quality: Design, Organization, and Engagement. These standards address both course design and course delivery to support student success. Faculty who would like to teach online credit or hybrid courses should familiarize themselves with the standards via Faculty Professional Development before developing a course for online or hybrid format. Please read the information provided on Course Design and Delivery Standards before beginning the professional development process to teach online or hybrid asynchronous courses.
Course Design Standards
Online (DL) and Hybrid (HY) credit courses should include evidence of each of the following design standards. Please see Appendix A in the Standards for Online Design and Delivery document for detailed examples.
- The course design is intentional and pre-planned.
- The course content is rich, appropriate, and current.
- The course is accessible.
- A clear, logical structure is used to organize the course materials.
- The course includes a variety of instructional materials, methods, and assessments.
- The course provides students with guidance in the learning process.
- The course includes various opportunities for interaction.
Course Delivery Standards
Online (DL) and Hybrid (HY) credit courses should include evidence of each of the following delivery standards.

- The course includes regular and substantive interaction between the students and the instructor.
- Student learning is guided.
- Communication is professional, student-centered, and inclusive.
