Course Description

Field work is designed to provide the student with "real life" experiences in a special education setting. Students will complete 6 hours per week on Saturdays at the Children's Developmental Clinic on the Largo campus of PGCC. This experience will take place under the guidance of both an experienced teacher and a college supervisor. Students will also complete weekly course work, both online and through several on-campus meetings. The focus of this capstone course is on the development of the necessary teaching skills to maintain an effective learning environment for children with special needs. These skills include: lesson planning, implementation, and reflection; pedagogy, curriculum planning and assessment; classroom management; and effective communication with other professionals, students, and families.
Prerequisites
Reading proficiency. TED-1100, TED-1200, TED-1300, TED-1400, and TED-2350. Also, students must have completed 49 credit hours in the ECE A.A.S. and ECE A.A.T. programs, and have a current cumulative GPA of 2.0. Rule: ECE AAS students must also take TED 1110 prior to taking 2000 level courses.
